IAOM Flour City District Meets in Alexandria, MN on August 19-21Date Posted: August 23, 2010 Approximately 45 members from the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Flour City District attended the 2010 Fall Meeting and Technical Conference, August 19-21, at The Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center, Alexandria, MN. A social hour followed by a casual banquet was held Friday evening, August 20. A golf outing was held on Saturday morning, August 21, at The Arrowwood Resort. On Friday, August 20, the technical program was opened by Bruce Carlson, IAOM Flour City District chairperson, of Horizon Milling LLC, Mankato, MN. The program included several presentations, covering: • Fire detection and protection, Terry Maxon, fire detection and suppression specialist, of Electric Scientific Company, Minneapolis, MN; • Explosion venting cautions in light of new NFPA 68 rulings, Kurt Boston, of Donaldson Company, Inc., Minneapolis, MN; and • New sifters, Bob Ricklefs, sales manager, of Great Western Manufacturing Company, Inc., Leavenworth, KS. Jason Grahek, sales manager, Industrial Automation Engineering, Inc. (IAE), of Ham Lake, MN, discussed hazard monitoring reliability. Debbie Morrow, sales manager/process filtration, of SaatiTech, made a presentation about color-coded inventory management system (CCIMS). Ron Atkinson, western regional manager, of FIKE Corporation, of Blue Springs, MO, spoke about flameless venting. Kerck Kelsey, a historian and retired salesman, of South Freeport, ME, spoke about his book, Remarkable Americans: The Washburn Family, on the history of Cadwallader C. Washburn and the building of mills in Minneapolis, MN. Also attending the conference were Carole Smith, office manager, IAOM, Overland Park, KS, who provided a brief overview about IAOM’s new website. Joe Woodard, IAOM Vice President, ADM Milling Co., Arkansas City, KS, also attended. Joe provided welcoming remarks and updates on domestic and international activities of IAOM, including a brief update about the development and comprehensive upgrade of eight units of correspondence courses. Before the close of Friday’s sessions, a business meeting for the Flour City district was held for the election of officers in 2010. Future discussions will be held soon about where to hold the 2011 fall meeting and technical conference. Attendees were also reminded that the 115th Annual IAOM Conference and Expo, will be held May 2-6, 2011, in San Antonio, TX, at the San Antonio Regency Hyatt Hotel and the Henry B.
