Nearly 80 members from the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Texoma, Central and Wheat State Districts attended the 2010 Spring Meeting and Technical Conference, March 4-5, at the Holiday Inn San Antonio-Riverwalk in San Antonio, TX.

Traditionally, the Central and Wheat State Districts have held a joint annual meeting during the last weekend in March in Manhattan, KS, but with the upcoming centennial celebration of K-State’s department of grain science and industry in September, the two districts decided that this would be a great chance to join the Texoma District in San Antonio, TX, according to Jeff Hole, plant manager, of Cereal Food Processors, Inc., Kansas City, KS.

A golf outing was held on Thursday morning, March 4, at the Canyon Springs Golf Club, San Antonio, TX. A social hour followed by a casual banquet was also held Thursday evening at the Holiday Inn San Antonio-Riverwalk.

Jason Grahek, senior electrical engineer, of MBA Engineering, Inc., Ham Lake, MN, spoke about energy monitoring and management as well as power quality issues.

Megan Holton, a junior attending K-State’s Grain Science and Industry Program, Manhattan, KS, spoke about her experience in studying milling science along with other foreign-exchange students at the Swiss School of Milling in St. Gallen, Switzerland, from August 2009 until January 2010.

Clay Allen, regional sales manager, of Stoddard Silencers, Grayslake, IL, offered an overview about choices of filters and systems and filtration silencing solutions.

Also attending the conference were Melinda Farris, executive vice president, and Shannon Henson, director of meetings and exhibits, of IAOM, Overland Park, KS; Joe Woodard, general manager, of ADM Milling Company, Arkansas City, KS, and IAOM Treasurer and International Milling Education Foundation (IMEF) Vice President; and Royal Denning, assistant director of operations, of Cereal Food Processors, Inc., Mission Woods, KS, and IAOM Immediate Past President.
