State Updates

Ohio: Crop looks good, some dry weather as wheat matures. Anticipating late June/earl-July harvest. On track for normal. Expecting decent yields, spring rain.

Texas: Widespread rainfall across state, 2/10th - 7 inches (heaviest precip. Wichita falls/Dallas, some severe hail damage with mature wheat being impacted). 58 lb/bu TW in Blacklands area, Rolling Plains region – harvest 50-66% completed., 62/63 lb/bu TW. Overall 40% harvested in state. Still significant precip. across state, with most 3-4 inches. Some low TW concerns in localized areas due to rain.

Oklahoma: Moisture keeping producers out of field. High-70s/low-80 degree, not harvest weather. 22% harvested, last year around 50%+ harvested. Very slow harvest. Reports so far holding up. Some TW drops in SW OK. Rain along 281 corridor facing more challenges with rain. Pockets in state, N. Central OK might be able to wrap up, usually not first to finish harvest. Eastern OK to start next week, could face TW challenges. Potential for hot/dry weather later next week.

Kansas: Harvesting in Wichita area. Some scattered reports of test cutting. Rain in Southern KS (some up to 13 inches). No yield or TW reports yet. Weather forecast favorable next 5-6 days, possible rain middle of next week then turn hot/dry.

Colorado: Field days past week. Muddy/wet out in the fields, should help grain fill. Feeling positive. Central corridor some spotty stands/virus but looking ok. NE avg/slightly below avg. - stress in April, hard time recovering. Overall good shape, some hail but not excessive yet. Virus issues this year, not leaf rust disease. Almost a complete shift to Triticum mosaic, not wheat streak. Some stripe rust but too late to be an issue, some scab issues reported. Saw fly seeing reduced populations in hot spot areas. Forecast looking good, drying out. Very little moisture forecast. Could start cutting in SE CO in 10-14 days, NE likely July 4.

Nebraska: Conditions improved slightly. Past 10 days decent moisture. Drying out with hot temps this week. Next week in lower 90s/small chance of rain early. Some stripe rust in S. Central/SE state (higher moisture). Saw fly not too severe, but moving further south out of Panhandle and go into SW corner of state. SE/S. Central turning color, could start harvest next 10 days to 2 weeks. Expecting an on time harvest.

Wyoming: 20-25% zeroed out. Expecting slightly below average crop, but producers are optimistic. Not a lot of saw fly/little disease reports. Most of the wheat is very short.

South Dakota: Conditions slightly improving. Winter looking decent, but concerned about dry in fall/winter impacts. Spring is looking good – 61% G-E. Good weather past few weeks, cool/rainy. Hoping for warm weather.

North Dakota: Looking good for spring wheat. Conditions lower than normal, but improving. Crop had a rough start, hot temps/uneven emergence. Overall things looking good. Cooler temperatures, helping the wheat. Durum 76% G –E . Lots of precip. In May, some in June, keeping crop moving but will continue to watch moisture situation.

Montana: Struggling. Winter ratings dropped. Unseasonably hot/dry. 50% of normal precip. In May and June. Most production areas in drought. Tan spot in S. Central MT (well above average rain), wheat streak mosaic virus showing up, hessian fly/stem saw fly, grasshoppers. Crop about 10 days ahead of normal due to early dormancy. Spring/durum got in early but slow to emerge. Forecast scattered showers/storms, upper 70 temps.

Washington: Crop holding well but growers getting concerned about lack of moisture, 68% G-E for winter wheat. 80% headed. Spring wheat 100% emerged but mixed conditions. Dryness taking a toll, rain needed. Columbia Basin looking good but dryland likely closer to avg. yields but rising concerns. Overall winter wheat crop looks fair/good, but spring crop falling short – thin stands.

Oregon: High heat over the weekend, turning crop very fast. Good soil moisture so overall remaining optimistic on avg – above avg. based on growing conditions earlier in the year. Winter wheat faring better than spring.

Illinois: Est. 5% harvested. Very wet spring, slowing things down. Overall looks like a good SRW crop.
