A former engineer who worked at Bowman's Flour Mill has warned that "someone will die" if break-ins at the abandoned site in Ickleford continue.
The former flour mill in Arlesey Road closed in 2016 and has sat vacant ever since, with trespassers, including children, making their way into the building on a regular basis.
Glen Warne, who worked Bowman's as an electrical engineer from 2004 to 2011, was quick to warn of the dangers the site poses, and believes that tragedy could strike if no action is taken.
"I had full access to everything on the site and am well-aware of the dangers," he told the Comet.
"I used to have to work at heights, in the underground tunnels, and at the top of all the silos, which you could fall into.
"If that was my children I would want to know about it. I believe someone will die if this continues, because it's so dangerous."
Glen admitted he was "horrified" after being shown a number of videos posted on TikTok that show children breaking into the building, with one including a child hanging from a catwalk which he says is "100ft up in the air".
CCTV images of trespassers have also been passed to Herts police, but when the force was asked for comment by this newspaper, a spokesperson said the situation was being "monitored" and reports had been passed to the caretaker of the site.
Glen called on the police to take more action, adding: "We've been contacting the police and this has been going on for years. It's not a new thing.
"There was an oil spill a few years ago which led to a huge environmental problem, and that was caused by people breaking in.
"There's was a substation in there with transformers that had oil in them, so when people stole the transformers the oil seeped into the river.
"There was also the arson attack, and the site is far too easy to get into. There's countless police logs on this and all they say is make the site more secure."
