The Azad Kashmir government of Pakistan has sworn to ensure that consumers can access quality flour at prescribed rates. Officials recently attended a meeting regarding inspection of mills and flour quality, as well as availability of flour and dumping practices.
At the meeting, District Food Controllers studies the stocks of their districts, as well as sample reports and public complaints. They assured consumers that no quality or weight issues would be tolerated. Field teams were emphasized as a method to immediately resolve public complaints, as well as complaints being addressed on a priority basis.
Deputy Director Sardar Muhammad Saqib instructed that surprise inspections of mills should increase immediately, and that the quality, cleanliness, machinery, and wheat usage should be continuously monitored to prevent foul play. Saqib went on to state that quality flour reaching the public is a top priority of the government.
Officials were directed to increase the frequency of field visits, and that reports on flour available at dumping points, flour mills, and within the market should be released daily. Additionally, he stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy to address public complaints.
Despite low flour prices in the region, there are many complaints about substandard flour being sold.
