Anton Paar has expanded its extrusion portfolio with the launch of the Brabender TwinLab B-TSE-S 30/40, designed to bring lab-level process understanding into pilot-scale food production environments.

With throughput of up to 100 kilograms per hour, the twin-screw extruder allows food manufacturers and research and development teams to validate formulations and process parameters under realistic conditions while producing application-relevant sample quantities. From product development to process transfer, reliable data remains essential for consistent product quality and efficient scale-up.

“From small-batch production to process transfer, the expectation remains the same: data must be trustworthy,” says André Kayser, product manager at Anton Paar. “Building on Anton Paar’s expertise in lab-scale extrusion, TwinLab B-TSE-S 30/40 translates this measurement mindset to pilot scale, combining transparent process data with higher throughput.”

Designed for demanding food applications, the system features a compact footprint with an integrated drive, making it suitable for pilot environments where space is limited. The co-rotating twin screws are powered by 39 kilowatts, operate at speeds up to 1,200 rpm and deliver 150 newton-meters per screw under process conditions of up to 450 degrees Celsius and 300 bar.

To support frequent recipe changes and hygiene requirements, the clamshell barrel opens at the touch of a button, providing direct access to process areas for cleaning, inspection and screw configuration adjustments. Detachable liner inserts can be removed and replaced quickly, allowing fast material changes while reducing cross-contamination between runs.

The TwinLab B-TSE-S 30/40 also features an integrated engineering interface for software-based input and output configuration. Anton Paar said this allows users to adapt sensors, feeders and downstream components without hardware modifications, supporting changing development needs.

Process visibility and control are managed through Anton Paar’s MetaBridge software, which records and visualizes key parameters including torque, temperature, pressure, screw speed and throughput. The company said this allows for efficient trial comparison, standardized reporting and data-driven decision-making.

The TwinLab B-TSE-S 30/40 is designed to support food product development, small-batch production and scale-up to larger operations through its compact design, flexible configuration and process data capabilities.
