UK Flour Millers has published its 2026 Wheat Guide, providing updated information on milling wheat requirements, variety classifications and quality expectations for growers and the flour milling industry.
Released online in June, the annual guide complements the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board's Recommended List by presenting the flour milling sector's assessment of wheat varieties. The 2026 edition includes updates to UK Flour Millers Group classifications and introduces new varieties, including the Group 1 winter wheat Arlington and the spring wheat Charland.
The guide is intended to help growers make planting and marketing decisions as demand for high quality milling wheat remains steady. It also emphasizes that individual mill requirements can vary depending on the intended end use, encouraging growers to work directly with local mills to better align production with market needs. UK Flour Millers' mill map is highlighted as a resource to help connect growers with nearby milling facilities.
UK Flour Millers said the guide reflects the industry's continued need for a reliable supply of milling wheat. UK flour mills use about 5 million metric tons of wheat each year, with as much as 85% sourced from domestic production. The organization said maintaining a resilient domestic wheat supply chain remains important as flour continues to serve as a staple ingredient in a wide range of food products.
UK Flour Millers represents the U.K. flour milling industry and publishes the Wheat Guide each year to provide a consolidated view of milling sector interests and variety preferences.
The 2026 Wheat Guide is available for download from the UK Flour Millers website. Printed copies are also available upon request for farmers, agronomists and other industry professionals.
