VAA Promotes Doug Nagel, PE and Brian Utoft, PE to Partner

Minneapolis, MN – Doug Nagel, PE and Brian Utoft, PE joined the ownership group at VAA earlier this year.

The multidiscipline engineering firm of 150 employees is now privately held by 12 partners.

A Senior Structural Engineer, Nagel manages work within VAA’s agribusiness and industrial sectors across North America including the design of grain storage silos, evaluations of process enhancements, and retrofit services for owners, fabricators, and design-build contractors.

He started his career at VAA as an intern.

With undergraduate and graduate degrees in civil engineering from the U of M – Twin Cities, his structural experience includes steel, concrete and slipform design.

Nagel is Vice President of the Minnesota Concrete Council and a member of ACI Committee 313, which produces the standards that govern design and construction of concrete bins and silos in the United States.

Utoft has been employed with VAA for over a decade and manages the design of heavy industrial facilities, including wet and dry grain processing, seed conditioning and mineral processing.

Beyond his role as a Senior Process Engineer, Utoft is an essential player in the firm’s business development efforts and represents VAA at numerous trade shows.

He is a graduate from Bradley University in Peoria, IL with a B.S. in industrial engineering and a minor in business administration.

Prior to joining VAA, Utoft worked for an industrial contractor familiar with design-build and design-bid-build projects.Brian is a member of the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) and Master Brewers Association of the Americas.
