USDA Second Quarter Flour Milling Report: All Wheat Ground For Flour Up 2% From 2020

All wheat ground for flour during the second quarter 2021 was 223 million bushels, down 1 percent from the first quarter 2021 grind of 225 million bushels but up 2 percent from the second quarter 2020 grind of 219 million bushels.

Second quarter 2021 total flour production was 103 million hundredweight, down less than 1 percent from the first quarter 2021 but up 1 percent from the second quarter 2020.

Whole wheat flour production at 4.87 million hundredweight during the second quarter 2021 accounted for 5 percent of the total flour production.

Millfeed production from wheat in the second quarter 2021 was 1.63 million tons. The daily 24-hour milling capacity of wheat flour during the second quarter 2021 was 1.59 million hundredweight.

Durum wheat ground for flour and semolina production during the second quarter of 2021 totaled 15.3 million bushels, down 11 percent from the first quarter 2021 and down 21 percent from the second quarter 2020.

Second quarter 2021 durum flour and semolina production was 7.25 million hundredweight, down 10 percent from the first quarter 2021 and down 21 percent from the second quarter 2020.

Whole wheat durum flour and semolina production was 147 thousand hundredweight, up 3 percent from 143 thousand hundredweight in the first quarter 2021 but down 10 percent from 164 thousand hundredweight from the second quarter 2020.

Second quarter durum wheat millfeed production was 105 thousand tons and the daily 24-hour milling capacity for durum and semolina production was 132 thousand hundredweight.

Rye ground for flour during the second quarter of 2021 was 444 thousand bushels, down 3 percent from the first quarter 2021 but up 33 percent from the second quarter 2020.

Rye flour production during the second quarter of 2021 was 201 thousand hundredweight, compared to 209 thousand hundredweight in the previous quarter and 159 thousand hundredweight in the same quarter for the previous year.

The daily 24-hour milling capacity for rye milling was 9.66 thousand hundredweight for the second quarter 2021.
