IAOM Offers Condolences For Passing of Tom Byrnes, Founder of Blower Engineering and Steam Engineering

It is with great sadness that IAOM announces the passing of Tom Byrnes, the founder of Blower Engineering and Steam Engineering.

Tom Byrnes (February 27, 1930-April 17, 2022) passed away at his home in Aurora, Ontario, Canada, surrounded by his family: his wife of 68 years, Peggy; and children Debra, Tim, Robyn, Tom Jr., Bill, and Ghislaine.

Tom graduated from the University of Toronto in 1954 with a degree in civil engineering and began his career in the pneumatic conveying field at GATX-Fuller Company in the early 1960s.

He continued a regular 80+ hour work week well into his 90th year. He always maintained that if you find a job you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.

He enjoyed attending the many IAOM district meetings and conferences over the past 30+ years.

He said the highlight of the year was attending the annual conference and reconnecting with his many friends in the milling industry.

He is survived by his wife, 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
