Steve Matson, director of operations at Bay State Milling, was unanimously elected 2022-23 vice president of the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) at the Association’s 126th Annual Conference & Expo on May 5 in Richmond, Virginia.
As vice president, Matson will be responsible for overseeing preparations for the Association’s 2023 conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is in line to serve as the Association’s president from 2023-2024. Matson has been an active member of IAOM since 1992.
While serving as IAOM vice president, he will also be president of the International Milling Education Foundation (IMEF), a philanthropic partner of IAOM that funds a variety of educational programs related to the grain milling industry.
Matson served as a member of the Flour City District’s executive committee from 2005-2008, and on the IAOM international board, representing the Wheat State District from 2008-2010, and the Flour City District from 2019-2021. Matson has also been on the IAOM Education Committee since 2010.
Matson is a native of Minnesota. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in management from the University of Minnesota.
Matson has been with Bay State Milling since 2017. He started his career at Cargill Flour Milling in 1992. He worked in plants in Ogden, Utah, and Mankato and Lake City, Minnesota.
In 2006, he was employed by Horizon Milling in Lake City, Minnesota, Wichita, Kansas and Wayzata, Minnesota. He was with Ardent Mills from 2014-17 in Wayzata and Hastings, Minnesota.
