USDA Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin (2/07): Cold, Dry Weather Maintained Substantial Snow Cover Across Northern Corn Belt

According to today's Weather and Crop Bulletin report of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), a multi-day storm delivered substantial ice accretion (due to freezing rain) from central Texas to the northern Mississippi Delta, hampering travel and leading to power outages for hundreds of thousands of customers.

The storm was also responsible for sleet accumulations, especially from northeastern Texas into Arkansas, as well as heavy rain (locally 2 to 4 inches or more) across the Deep South. However, precipitation from the storm mostly bypassed southern Texas and peninsular Florida.

Meanwhile, much of the remainder of the country experienced dry weather, although late- week precipitation overspread the Far West. Farther east, cold but dry weather maintained a substantial snow cover across the northern Corn Belt and northwestern half of the Plains.
