Why I Believe In IAOM ... David Jansen, Siemer Milling Co.

David Jansen

Vice President of Production

Siemer Milling Co.

Teutopolis, IL

IAOM Member since 1995

“In 1995, I attended my first district meeting and annual conference.

Red Tegeler, senior vice president of strategic initiatives for Siemer Milling Co., asked me to attend the district meeting and become an IAOM member.

I was working in maintenance at the time, and he told me how IAOM offered education for those in maintenance but also in milling operations.

“Since becoming an official member 24 years ago, I’ve served in various positions within the association, including Ohio Valley district officer from 2005-06, Ohio Valley chairperson from 2006-09, Ohio Valley director from 2010-16, IAOM treasurer from 2017-18, IAOM vice president from 2018-19, and now I am president of IAOM.

“I think the great value of IAOM membership comes from the numerous educational venues for continuous improvement and growth among its members.

“Whether it be with the Correspondence Course, Milling Technician Certificate Program, Resident Milling courses, district meetings, leadership roles within the districts, joining one of the standing committees (such as Education, Employee Relations, Environment Health and Safety, Food Protection, and Technical), or the annual conference and expo, IAOM provides forums for the exchange of ideas and the development of networks and friendships within the milling industry.

“The people and the relationships and camaraderie I have enjoyed over the years of my involvement are what I like best about it.

IAOM played an integral part in my milling education and training. It allows for networking and sharing of best practices among its members and the opportunity to form lifelong friendships, so I would recommend it to anyone interested in furthering their career in this industry.”
