Why I Believe In IAOM ... John Steinfort, Star of the West Milling Co.

IAOM Member since 2014

“I got involved with IAOM when I was a milling science student at Kansas State University.

That was a good introduction to the industry, and I was able to meet some millers. It was helpful to get a feel for the milling industry.

I then began attending IAOM conferences.

I’ve been involved with the association ever since I graduated from college and started working in the industry.

“I began my career working for equipment suppliers, so I was an associate member of IAOM.

I didn’t have a chance to really get more involved in the association until I started working at Star of the West Milling.

Here in Michigan, I’ve been a district officer for the past several years, and now I’m the chairman in the Wolverine district.

“As far as what IAOM offers, one of the big things, obviously, is the networking.

It’s what I like best about the association – the camaraderie and being able to see your friends in the milling industry is very valuable to me personally and professionally.

“Then, of course, there are the educational opportunities through technical presentations at conferences and meetings, as well as rubbing shoulders with industry peers who are always willing to help.

“The networking and educational opportunities are the two things I think are most valuable about IAOM membership.

“Of course, I recommend IAOM membership to anyone in the milling industry, because I think it’s important to continue learning and to be exposed to what’s going on in the industry.

And again, to have the camaraderie with your colleagues and industry peers – I just think it’s a great organization to be able to both learn and network, and it serves its purpose that way.

It helps equip people in the milling industry to do their jobs better and to continue to grow.”
