Why I Believe In IAOM ... Jim Hargett, Star of the West Milling Co.

Star of the West Milling Co. | Quincy, MI

IAOM Member Since 1988

“The biggest benefits of being an IAOM member are the educational opportunities – the technical side of it – as well as the networking part of it.

Those two don’t necessarily go hand in hand, but they both offer value to the members of the association.

“I’m a member of the Education Committee, and we meet as a group.

The committee consists of people from various backgrounds and experiences, and we develop the correspondence course content, off-site training for millers and mill superintendents, like Cowley College, the Bühler-Kansas State University training curriculum, and the new handbook that’s out.

That was all done by the Educational Committee.

“I recommend IAOM membership to any millers, especially if you’re new to the industry. You get in, and it’s really a family-type atmosphere.

You’re welcomed by people who have been in the business for a long period of time.

They talk about their experiences, and you find out the issues you face in the workplace aren’t as uncommon as you thought.

You gain insight on how to take care of situations that you may be having trouble with. The networking over the years has been invaluable to me.”
