The hard red winter wheat harvest is rolling toward completion with five states finished and two others on the cusp while the Pacific Northwest continues to make steady progress, according to the Plains Grains Inc. Aug. 7 report.

Wyoming (99%) and South Dakota (97%) are set to join Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska in the finished column. Oregon (61%), Montana (45%), Washington (38%), and Idaho (33%) still have some work in front of them.

With 354 samples collected, 335 of those are in various stages of testing. Overall test weights have not changed this week from 61.3 lb/bu. TKW did not budge from last week's 30 grams, but protein increased to 12%. Mixograph testing continues to indicate sound functional quality protein.
