The Winona Fire Department worked for several hours Monday evening to put out a fire at Bay State Milling in Winona.

The department responded to the scene after a fire alarm went off at 9:59 p.m.

The smoldering fire, which was reported to the department on arrival as a possible dust explosion, was confined to a dust collector bin and resulted in no injuries.

Long hose lays needed to be used near the top of the building to reach the bin, the department said Tuesday on Facebook.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation as of Tuesday morning.

Additionally, the Winona Police Department, Winona County Emergency Management, Winona Area Ambulance Service and Goodview Fire and Rescue assisted the fire department at the scene.
